Charley Plumly Luncheon

Captain Charley Plumly '55, of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Speaks at Chapter February 2005 Luncheon

Captain Charley Plumly '55, USN (Ret) classmate and good friend of Chapter President Bill Rentz '55, gave us an up close and personal look at history at the February Luncheon. Charley had four surface ship commands in his naval career and served for a year as Chief of Staff of CTF 115 in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. He was in LTjg John Kerry's chain of command for the entire four months that Kerry was in Vietnam. When Senator Kerry announced his candidacy for Commander-in-Chief based on his military experience in Vietnam, Charley and other Swift Boat veterans decided that they needed to tell their side of that experience, particularly his post tour escapades with his medals, Vietnam Veterans against the War, his accusations of war crimes, and the condition of his discharge from the Navy. Charley is a member of "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" and is quoted extensively in John O'Neil's book, "Unfit for Command". They declared their mission accomplished after the election last November in which George W. Bush was re-elected to a second term as President of the United States.
