NAVY WINS
106th Army-Navy
Football Game!

 |
Navy 42 - Army 23
Commander-in-Chief's Trophy stays
in Annapolis for three straight years!
Naval Academy Alumni and friends gathered at TJ's
Sports Bar & Grill in Roswell on December 3rd, 2005, to out-cheer the
attending West Pointers and watch Navy win the 106th meeting of Navy and
Army on the gridiron. Navy has now won six out of the last seven games!
This win also puts Navy in the lead in the overall series record
which now stands at Navy 50, Army 49, Ties 7.
The Mids,
lead by quarterback Lamar Owens, full back Adam Ballard, and slot back
Reggie Campbell played a solid running game all day long.
They got off to a slow start in the first quarter however, and
displayed absolutely no pass rush of any kind, allowing the Army
quarterback to complete passes seemingly at will.
However, our offense stayed on the field, scoring points and
consuming the clock.
SCORING
SUMMARY: Army scored first
with a field goal in the first quarter Army 3, Navy 0.
In the second quarter Navy slot back Reggie Campbell scored a TD
with a 54-yard run Army 3, Navy 7.
Army scored next with a 30-yard pass for a TD Army 10, Navy 7.
Navy quarterback Lamar Owens scored a TD on a 28-yard run breaking
at least three or four tackles on the way Army 10, Navy 14.
With seconds left in the half, Owens scored again with a 1-yard run
Army 10, Navy 21 to end the first half.
Navy scored twice in the third quarter.
First with a 28-yard run by full back Adam Ballard Army 10,
Navy 28. Next, quarterback
Owens scored with a 1-yard run Army 10, Navy 35.
With less than a minute to go in the quarter, Army scored with an
18-yard screen pass Army 17, Navy 35.
Navy started the fourth quarter off on their very first play from
scrimmage with a spectacular 67-yard run by Ballard for a TD Army 17,
Navy 42. At this point, Coach
Johnson started subbing in second-string players in order to let them get
some playing time in during the big game, including quarterback Brian
Hampton and others. With six
minutes to go in the game Navy fumbled the ball on Armys 4-yard line to
turn the ball over to Army. With
three minutes to go, Navys Mahony sacked the Army quarterback and
recovered the fumble. The
officials somehow called the ball dead and awarded Army the ball!?!
With just over one minute left in the game, Army threw a TD pass,
but missed the 2-point extra point attempt final score Army 23, Navy
42.
Navy ended their season with a 7-4 record and is
bound for the Poinsettia Bowl on December 22 at Qualcomm Stadium in San
Diego.
