Bill Rentz '55, USNAAA Atlanta Chapter President

This will be short to mainly invite your attention to our web site Events Schedule and our Monthly Luncheon Schedule.  Thanks to the efforts by your Chapter mates to organize some great activities, we have some exciting news.

The next football game is Navy-Notre Dame at Jocks & Jills on Saturday, October 16.  Kickoff is at 12 noon.  No need to sign up, just show up and yell.  This may be our chance to finally beat the Irish.  We’ve been so close for several years. Again, thanks to Ples Bruce ’77, for making that happen.

Navy Coach Paul Johnson will address the Atlanta Touchdown Club on Monday, November 8.  The ATC meets at Cobb Galleria.  You need to call Stew Caldwell ‘65 to make a reservation for that event and pay $50 at the door.

The Army-Navy game telecast on December 4 will be watched in Atlanta at the ESPN Zone in Buckhead by Annapolis and West Point grads and families.  More details to come on that event cost and sign up thanks to Matt Kirby ‘94.  Watch the website.

Our next monthly luncheon speaker on Friday, October 15, is the new Managing Editor of Shipmate, Debbie Beck.  She is looking for feedback on recent and future format changes to our magazine.  The October issue has a great article about Home Depot, “Supporting the Armed Forces”, written by Debbie Beck.  We are trying to line up Bob Ravener ’81, featured in the article, and a member of the Atlanta Chapter, to come tell us more about his company and their involvement in Veterans issues.  We can look forward to that after the first of the year.

The November 19 speaker is LGEN Robert Keller, USMC (Ret.), an F-4U Corsair pilot, author, and former CO of the Black Sheep Squadron.  Thanks, Les Gable ’70, for setting that up.

There is a lot more to look forward to: the Chapter Christmas Party, the Navy Bowl Game, MLK weekend and the USNA Gospel Choir visit in January, Founders Day with the Supe, VADM Rempt ’68, as Guest of Honor in February.  Lots of people are working out details of these events.  Watch the website.

We need you all to support these efforts by encouraging your classmates, old shipmates, squadron mates, and neighbors to join us for our monthly luncheon meetings and other events found on our website.  Spread the word.

Support and pray for our troops.

Beat Army!  Bill Rentz ’55
