Navy 42 - Army 13
Commander-in-Chief's Trophy
stays in Annapolis for another Year!
Naval Academy Alumni and friends gathered at TJ's Sports
Bar & Grill in Roswell on December 4th, 2004, to out-cheer the
attending West Pointers and watch Navy win the 105th meeting of Navy and
Army on the gridiron. Navy
has now won five out of the last six games! This win also puts the overall series record
in a tie which now stands at Navy 49, Army 49, Ties 7. The last time
the overall record stood at a tie was in 1992, at 43-43-7.
The
Mids, lead by
quarterback Aaron Polanco and running back Kyle Eckel played a solid game all day long.
The only slip was ending the opening drive inside the 5 yard line and
coming away without a score after a penalty and a missed field goal
attempt. Polanco threw for two touchdowns and rushed for
another. Eckel had a great day, rushing for 179 yards and a
touchdown. In the midst of a busted play for Army, Navy's Josh Smith
returned an interception 67 yards for a touchdown. Defense scores!
Navy ended their season with a 9-2 record, the best finish
since Heisman Trophy winner Roger Staubach led the Mids to a 9-1 record in
1963! Navy is bound for
the Emerald Bowl on December 30 in San Francisco! See www.emeraldbowl.org
for information.
The Commander-in-Chief's Trophy stays home in Annapolis for
two years in a row. The last time we held the CIC trophy for two
years straight was in 1978 and 1979. It's only fitting that
President Bush was in attendance and opened the game with the flip of a
commemorative coin from Fallujah, Iraq. Navy won the toss, as well!
Many thanks to Matt Kirby '94, for coordinating this
year's event.

event.)
