Blue & Gold Officer's Notes

Cindy Miller '90, Area B&G
Coordinator
Blue & Gold Officers:
I would like to start out by thanking those alumni that
answered my call for help for the Scout Exposition on April 26th.
The event was to give Scouts, their families and the general public
exposure to Scout and community-oriented activities.
We were approached by the Scouts to attend the event and represent
USNA. Every year we get a
large percentage of applicants to USNA from the scouting community and I
thought it would be a great opportunity to inform and motivate some of the
younger kids about USNA. The event was a great success with a lot of
interested young scouts. The
following Alumni offered their time and expertise at the event:
Paul Kellog ’65, Les Gable ’70, Ples Bruce ’77,
Eugene Wright ‘96 and a dedicated classmate (whose name I wrote
down but misplaced) from ’90.
The class of 2007 is almost set!! This year, from the over 400 applicants from Georgia, 22
students have accepted appointments to USNA and 4 students are on the
waiting list. We have 5
students who have accepted NAPS with another 3 whom we are waiting on
their response. Of the 5 Georgia students who have been given the opportunity
to apply for a Foundation Scholarship, 2 of them have been selected for
the program.
All juniors should have heard by now whether they have been selected
for the USNA Summer Seminar. The
program is designed for rising high school seniors to visit the Naval
Academy for one week during the summer. Students will experience all
aspects of the Naval Academy including the academic program and midshipman
life. Attendees get an
opportunity to take the Physical Aptitude Exam, and are the first to
receive official applications for the class of 2008.
Furthermore, students will receive an overview of Navy and Marine
Corps service options. If you
would like more information on the Summer Seminar or USNA activities, you
can visit the USNA web site at www.USNA.edu.
We are in need of Blue & Gold Officers in the Peachtree City,
Fayetteville, and Fairburn area!!
If you would like to know more about the program or if you would
like to help, please contact Cindy Miller at (770) 650-8921 or cindymiller@1990.usna.com.
The program is very flexible and lends itself easily to almost any
schedule, including pilots. For
more details on the program, please see the past articles in the USNA
Atlanta Alumni newsletter.
