January 2003 President's Corner
Bob Schultz '71, USNAAA Atlanta Chapter PresidentA belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! If you thought that you had to much food or drink over the holidays and therefore somehow missed getting your December newsletter… you didn’t. There was no December newsletter. There was so much going on with the holidays that we just decided to combine it with the January newsletter. (No excuse, sir!) At any rate, unless you have already started hibernating for the Winter, you know that Navy won the history-making 103rd Army-Navy football game in Giant Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. The final score of Navy 58 - Army 12, represents the most total points scored in the history of the game, assuring this Navy team a place in the history books! What a great day for Navy football! With this win Navy has won three out of the last four games! The series now stands at Army 49, Navy 47, Ties 7, though Navy leads the series in total touchdowns and total yardage. The Chapter Christmas/Holiday Party was held on Sunday December 22nd at the home of Michael and Susan Lores ’74, in Roswell. Approximately 50 alumni and friends attended the catered event. The company, the food and spirits, and the Lores home were all just great. I managed to get a crop of digital pictures of some of those in attendance. Watch for them to show up on the Chapter web site. Many thanks to Mike and Susan for sharing their beautiful home with us. The Chapter Luncheon on January 17th will be a business networking luncheon. This will be our first try at providing area alumni a forum for networking and exchange of information regarding job opportunities, those conducting job searches, business promotion, etc. We will learn as we go in this effort, and make changes accordingly as we learn what works. We have been informed that the Naval Academy Gospel Choir will visit Atlanta again during the Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday weekend celebration, January 17th through the 19th, 2003. The choir will put on a public concert at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 18th, at the old Ebenezer Baptist Church across the street from the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center. The Chapter will provide a lunch for the choir members in the MLK Center at noon that day. If you missed their concert in previous years, you missed some really uplifting gospel singing. This is a very talented group of Mids. Don’t miss it this year! Now the Dark Ages are upon us! Our Chapter Dark Ages Party is scheduled for Saturday, February 15th, at NAS, Atlanta. This will be a members only, black tie optional, event in honor of Founder’s Day to celebrate the founding of the United States Naval Academy. Our guest of honor is Colonel David Vetter, the Dean of Admissions of the U.S. Naval Academy. Formal invitations will be mailed to all year 2002 Chapter members. Alumni who join the Chapter this year are also invited to attend. Keep an eye on the newsletters and the web site for further information. God bless America, and God bless our troops defending freedom around the world. And… BEAT ARMY - AGAIN! Robert R. Schultz ’71
