USNA Gospel Choir in Concert at Ebenezer Baptist Church, January 2003
The U.S. Naval Academy Gospel Choir was in Atlanta for three days over the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend from January 17th through January19th. They held concerts at local high schools, the CNN Center, and the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church. On Saturday, January 18th, just before the concert, the Atlanta Chapter, with help from the Georgia Parents Club, sponsored a lunch for the choir members in Fellowship Hall below the sanctuary in the Ebenezer Baptist Church. The catered barbeque lunch was great and the home-made desserts from the Parents Club members were a big hit! It was a great opportunity to visit with the Midshipmen on a one-on-one basis. (Though it was a little sobering to see the nametags on these Mids with classes on them like '05 and '06! Lord, how old are we all getting?!) If you missed this event you should make a mental note to plan to attend next year. It’s a great time and the gospel singing was terrific! Many thanks to Stewart Caldwell, our Chapter’s Director for Brigade Support, and his wife Ann for coordinating this event for us. Thanks to Cindy Miller '90, our area Blue & Gold Coordinator, for arranging the high school visits. Thanks also to Kent and Janice White (Parents Club President) and their members for making the great desserts and giving the event a real “down home” flavor for the Midshipman.
