Admissions for the class of 2007
and
Applications for the class of 2008

The class of 2007 reported for duty on 1 July 03.  A total of 1228 students took the oath of office.  There were 3 appointees from the class decided not to raise their right hand on I-day.  As of 25 July 03, there were already 40 plebes in Tango company in the process of leaving USNA.

The admissions process for the class of 2008 is well underway.  USNA has mailed out more than 6,000 applications to students that have met the profile for possible admission to USNA.  There are a large number of students that have requested applications but will not been sent one until they become more “competitive”.

If there is a rising senior in high school that you are aware of who is interested in attending USNA, the process has already started.  The student needs to go on-line to www.usna.edu and under the Admissions section, register for an application.  There is a lot involved in the application process, including essays, Physical Aptitude Exam, medical exam, and teacher recommendations, just to name a few.  The senior also needs to start the process to obtain a nomination by contacting their Georgia senators (The honorable Chambliss and Miller) and their local U.S. congressman.  Most congressmen and senators require that students submit information, such as transcripts, recommendations, and essays to their offices by the end of October so that they can hold interviews in November.  With this in mind, there are not too many opportunities left for seniors to take or retake the SAT or ACT.

If you are aware of a junior in high school that is interested in USNA, they need to also start the application process by going on line to www.usna.edu and registering.  Juniors need to start taking the PSAT, SAT or ACT whenever it becomes available so that in January when USNA sends applications out to the juniors for the USNA Summer Seminar program, they will have a good score to submit with the application.  Juniors can contact the Senators from Georgia and their local U.S. congressman in January of their junior year.  If you know of a junior that would like to talk to their USNA Blue & Gold Officer, please have them contact LCDR Cindy Miller at (770) 650-8921 or cindymiller@1990.usna.com.

A BGO is a USNA Blue and Gold Officer.  BGOs perform counseling and interview students that are applying to USNA.  A BGO performs a very important and needed service to the Academy Admissions office by providing a face-to-face interview with the candidate and evaluating the student for their true desire to attend USNA and serve in the Naval service.   If you would like to know more about the program or if you would like to help by becoming a BGO, please contact Cindy Miller at (770) 650-8921 or cindymiller@1990.usna.com.  I am currently in need of another BGO in the Snellville or Conyers area.  The program is very flexible and lends itself easily to almost any schedule, including pilots.  For more details on the program, please see the past articles in the USNA Atlanta Alumni newsletter.
