October 2002 President's Corner
Bob Schultz '71, USNAAA Atlanta Chapter PresidentI just got back from attending our Candidate Awareness Midshipman Visit at the Student Center on the Georgia Tech campus. No better time to pen my president’s corner article for the month. We had a good turnout of candidates and parents for the Midshipman visit. Please look elsewhere in the newsletter for a write up on the event. Many thanks to Cindy Miller ’90, our area Blue & Gold Coordinator, and Tim Phillips ’89, our Chapter Candidate Awareness Representative for working closely with Annapolis to plan and carry out this event. We have been invited by the Atlanta Lehigh Alumni Club to attend a Patriot League Happy Hour at Fado in Buckhead, along with alumni of Bucknell, Colgate, Lehigh, Lafayette, American, and Holy Cross. Please look elsewhere in the newsletter for the specifics for the event. Hoping that the football gods look down upon us favorably, I remind you now of our Annual Army-Navy Football Game Party. Unless I have my wires crossed, the game is on Saturday, December 7th this year. Since Army is hosting the party this year, we do not have a firm location to give you yet. Unless tradition changes, it may well be at our usual location, TJ’s Sports Bar and Grill at 2880 Holcomb Bridge Road in Alpharetta. Keep an eye on the Events page of the Chapter web site for updates on location and time. We have some dates firmed up for a few other upcoming events. The Chapter Christmas Party will be held on Saturday, December 22nd. Location to be announced. Our Christmas Party is typically a catered event that is held at a Chapter member’s home. This makes for a nice, casual, holiday-at-home setting. If you would like to volunteer your home for the event, please contact the event coordinator Carl McCallum ’60, at his home phone 770-973-1096. Though still a long way off, we have confirmed a date for our Second Annual Dark Ages Party/Founders Day Celebration. The event will be held on Saturday, February 15th, 2003 at NAS Atlanta. Mark your calendars now and plan to attend. We are currently working on a guest of honor and entertainment. Happy Halloween! God bless America, and God bless our troops defending freedom around the world. Robert R. Schultz ’71
