By the time this month’s newsletter hits the streets it will nearly be Spring.  (The vernal equinox is on March 20th this year.)  And then Easter comes early this year, on March 31st.  Why is that, you ask?  Well, Easter actually falls on the same day every year!  Yes, it’s on a Sunday!  We all know that.  But it doesn’t always fall on the same date, i.e. March Nth or April Nth.  It does in fact, however, fall on the same DAY every year.  What day is that?  What determines what day Easter actually is each year?

OK, on to Chapter business.  So, do you still have your year 2002 Chapter dues mailer sitting on your desk waiting to be filled out and mailed in?  Well, what are you waiting for?  For the price of dinner out one night you can have a year’s worth of fun and friendship through the alumni association

The Chapter Dark Ages Party was held on February 23rd at the Lickskillet Farm Restaurant in Alpharetta.  This year’s party turned into a really good time.  Vice Admiral Ryan, Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy, was our guest of honor to help us celebrate the founding of the Academy.  Look in this month’s newsletter and on the Chapter web site for a complete write-up of the event and pictures (web site only) of the party goers.

Our next major event is the sixth annual Army-Navy Golf Classic, to be held on May 13th at Fort McPherson.  We have won the golf tournament four out of the last five times, including the last three years in a row!  Be sure to get your reservations in early and come out again this year to help us beat the Woops again on their home course.  Look elsewhere in this month’s newsletter for more information and a reservation form to fill out and mail in

We are currently working with the West Point Society of Atlanta to arrange a joint evening event for sometime in April.  Current plans call for a Thursday evening event, with a preliminary cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres beforehand, during which those in attendance can mingle and get to know one another.  This would be followed by an optional dinner afterwards, i.e. those who want to stay for dinner could get together in groups and do so on an individual basis.

A little further down the road is the Atlanta Chapter’s world famous Annual LobsterFest!  This year the LobsterFest will be held on Saturday, June 8th, at the City of Atlanta Waterworks facility where it has been held many times before.  More information will be published about this event as the time approaches.  For now, mark your calendars, and please remember that the LobsterFest is a huge undertaking that requires a lot of work to carry out.  We need volunteers to help with setup, check in, food preparation, cooking, serving, clean up, supply pick up and delivery, and more.  If you can help in any capacity, please contact Carl McCallum at his home phone, 770-973-1096.

God bless America, and God bless our troops deployed in the Middle East.

And… BEAT ARMY!

TRIVIA ANSWER:  When is Easter?

Easter falls on the same day every year!  When is that, you ask?  Easter is always the first Sunday, after the first full moon, after the first day of Spring (vernal equinox).
