April 2002 President's Corner
Bob Schultz '71, USNAAA Atlanta Chapter PresidentWelcome to Spring! Along with the change of the season comes a couple of major events for the Atlanta Chapter. First is the sixth annual Army-Navy Golf Classic, to be held on May 13th at Fort McPherson. Navy has won the golf tournament four out of the last five times, including the last three years in a row! Will Wood ’66, our event coordinator has informed us that Army is taking this regular thrashing by Navy on their home course very seriously this year. Rumor has it that they are recruiting heavily for the event and intend to field a strong team! Let’s keep this trophy on our mantle for another year! If you have played in the tournament in the past, be sure to play again this year. If you haven’t joined us at this event, make plans to play this year. Be sure to get your reservations in early and come out this year to help us beat the Woops on the links again. Look elsewhere in this month’s newsletter for more information and a reservation form to fill out and mail in. As Summer approaches, the 28th Annual LobsterFest is coming up fast! This year the LobsterFest will be held on Saturday, June 8th, at the City of Atlanta Waterworks Recreation Facility where it has been held many times before. Look elsewhere in this month’s newsletter for more information and a reservation form to fill out and mail in. As usual, dues-paying Chapter members get a price break on this event. So, if you haven’t sent in your 2002 Chapter dues yet, the LobsterFest is a good reminder and great incentive to do so. Also, please remember that the LobsterFest is a large undertaking that requires a huge amount of work to carry out. We need volunteers to help with setup, check in, food preparation, cooking, serving, clean up, supply pick up and delivery, and more. If you can help in any capacity, please contact Carl McCallum ’60 at his home phone, 770-973-1096. One more item. You may be asking “Hey, where’s my new Atlanta Chapter Membership and Georgia Alumni Roster?” Good question! If you paid Chapter dues in 2001, you rate your very own copy of the latest Roster as a benefit of membership. The bad news is that it’s a little late this year. (Of the two dozen items on my list of things to do for the Alumni Association, the Chapter Roster has slowly worked its way to the top of the list.) So, the good news is that its printed and ready to be mailed. It should be mailed out this month. Watch for it in your snail-mail! Then look up your classmates and invite them to an event or a luncheon. See you all on the golf course in May and at the LobsterFest in June God bless America. God bless our troops deployed in the Middle East And… BEAT ARMY Bob Schultz ‘71
